Assistant Entertainment Media Director, GLAAD Legendary Drag Diva Dies Drag performer Charles Pierce died this week in his sleep at the age of 72. Pierce became legendary among not only fellow drag queens but among many of those he impersonated during his 40-year career. Carol Channing once said that Pierce did a better Charol Channing then she did.
Will & Grace Score With Critics
Will & Grace garnered three nominations from the Television Critics Association this past week. The hit NBC show is nominated in the Achievement in Comedy and the New Program categories, and Sean Hayes (Jack) and Megan Mullally (Karen) were nominated as a pair in the Individual Achievement in Comedy category.
Other lesbian-, gay- and bi-inclusive programs with nominations include NYPD Blue, Friends and the recently cancelled Homicide: Life on the Street. Career Achievement nods include Norman Lear, Aaron Spelling and Barbara Walters. The "controversial" Teletubbies were also on the list, recognized in the Achievement in Children's Programming category. Numerous real-life stars share their thoughts about the fictitious Jackie, including Diahann Carroll, Eddie Cobrian, Jackie Collins, Melissa Etheridge, Whoopi Goldberg, Kathy Griffin, Sean Hayes, Ricki Lake, Camryn Manheim, Penny Marshall, Bette Midler, Liza Minelli, Rosie O'Donnell, Dolly Parton, David Hyde Pierce and Bruce Vilanch. B-52's May Rock Toon Town: The hit-making band The B-52's may soon be coming to Saturday morning television. The funky retro rock band has signed a deal with Stone Stanley Productions to develop a animated series using the voices of the four band members (Kate Pierson, Fred Schneider, Keith Strickland and Cindy Wilson) and some of the groups two decade old catalogue of campy classics like Rock Lobster and Love Shack. The Real Deal on MTV: The latest installment of MTV's culture clashing show The Real World has brought together an eclectic group to live in Hawaii in a life-sized fishbowl. The consistently gay-inclusive show will debut this latest installment on June 15 with gay cast member Justin, and Ruthie, who is the series' first cast member to identify as bisexual. Conservative critics in England are upset about a commemorative stamp just issued depicting the late, legendary bisexual rocker Freddie Mercury of the band Queen. The stamp series, which depicts British achievements over the past millennium, was approved by Mercury's family and the Queen of England herself. More Sex on HBO: Things are heating up in Manhattan this weekend when HBO premieres a new season of Sex and the City, starring Sarah Jessica Parker . The critically acclaimed and gay-inclusive show kicks off this second season June 9 at 9PM EST/PST and will air new episodes every Sunday night throughout the summer. Beggars Can Be Choosers: Look for a new gay character on Showtime's original series Beggars and Choosers, which will premier later this month with Tuc Watkins portraying gay assistant Malcolm Laffley. US and In Style Profile Media Awards: Look for the July issues of US magazine and In Style, which both profile the 10th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. |
