Virginia Law Officer Vents

I am thoroughly disgusted with the attitude towards the police in this case. (Archives: http://gaytoday.badpuppy.com/garchive/ people/081197pe.htm ) I am a law officer myself and I can tell you that the victims race, religion or background does not dictate our fervor of investigations .

I don't care if you are the slime of the earth I will defend your rights and give my life to save yours if need be!! this is how most cops feel!! we do a dangerous hard job others cant . few people know how hard it is to prove someone guilty of driving drunk let alone murder. if cops move to fast the juries let guilty go on technicalities.

I feel for the mother's loss but she doesn't understand that we just can't go out and presto—there's our killer. Leads are tough to come by and bad leads are a dime a dozen . I think she's blinded by her grief. Bad mouthing those trying to find the killer is wrong . We can't work on assumptions we work in fact finding, its not easy and we are much maligned but we keep at it even through the abuse. dsmith.jpg - 30.97 K Donna Smith: Son taken from her by serial killer of gays.

Give us a chance. Go ride with your local law enforcement one night then go to court with them see the bull crap we go through and the devotion to all citizens we give you would be surprised. I don't think you will print this but i wish you would. And as for Chucky's Mom, I'm sorry your family was a victim and that you are suffering. I wish you God's love and protection.

Sincerely
(Name Withheld)

Newsweek's Ex-Gays

top811.gif - 13.48 K Rich Tafel and Rep. Steve Largent: Two key figures in the Ex-Gay Debate. Today, I was subjected to the new cover of Newsweek magazine. On it, were a couple, a guy, and girl. "Ex-gays" they were referred to. Someone at work said, "...See, you still have a chance..." I replied, "Okay, you first. Try to be gay for 10 minutes."

He said he couldn't, and didn't want to. I then said, "...And I don't have that choice, too?"

Flustered, he brushed the comment off. I then said to him,..."You know...I think your right,...I believe we can change how we were born...I think I'd like to be Puerto Rican."

Ex-Southern Baptists Unite!

Forgive my use of hateful words, but I think you'll see my point: I'm surprised these fundamentalists haven't gone to the attic and unpacked all their old racist literature. Perhaps they should white-out "nigger" and just insert "faggot". I grew up in a Southern Baptist church. Even today, if a person of color showed up to worship they would throw them out and lock the doors. Whenever I get depressed about Pat Robertson, et.al., I just try to remember that one day they will be looked upon with the same disgust as is George Wallace, Lester Maddox, and Bull Connor.

Vigil at Ex-Gay Headquarters: Coral Ridge Ministries

Stonewall Library & Archives deplores the recent advertising campaign by a coalition of conservative organizations led by the Center for Reclaiming America, an arm of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and a favorite project of its leader, the Rev. D. James Kennedy. revkenn.jpg - 2.64 K Rev. Kennedy

Although we respect and defend freedom of expression, we see this ad campaign for what it is: a thinly veiled effort to raise political clout and money for conservative groups by scapegoating gays and lesbians, whose only agenda involves equal treatment under the law and protection from discrimination. We fear this ad campaign will foster bigotry against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and fuel the hatred of "gay-bashers" those who perpetrate random, violent attacks against members of our community.

The fact that these ads tout "ex-homosexual" conversion groups is a slap in the face to gays and lesbians, especially those who have been tormented and emotionally scarred by anti-gay religious groups, friends and family members.

Stonewall Library & Archives, as part of our educational mission, will join GUARD in its peaceful vigil at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, August 22, in front of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. Our fellow South Floridians need to know about the nationwide anti-gay crusade headquartered there, and we see the vigil as one way to call attention to it.

Additionally, we offer a "reading list" for those would support Reclaiming America's project as well as those organizing it if they can open their minds long enough to see the truth about gays and lesbians, our lives, our struggles and our hopes for a better future.
