India's Pioneering Gay Activist/ Editor

india.jpg - 24.62 K Thank you very much for running the story (about India's first gay liberation web site) We're still stuck because Internic is running into trouble getting us into the website we have booked months ago but that's a teething problem.

The BOMBAY-DOST.COM site will have the latest editorial contents of Bombay Dost which will then endeavor to give you all the news about the Indian gay movement.

We ourselves will be privileged to be linked to you.

We are linked to many sites through Humsafar.org anyway. Altindia being one of them. Thank you for thinking of us.

We are appearing on the national 'Doordarshan' chat show with celebrity Kiron Kher who is considered a very tough taskmaster.

We both slaughtered the 'sexologist' Dr.J.V.Bhat who suggested that homosexuals were 'arrested and under-developed individuals according to Freud' .

Poor thing had to east his words.

Michigan's Michael Batey:
40 Years in Prison!

Jesse Monteagudo's "people" feature last December was on the plight of Michael Batey, a young man accused of four counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct. Today he sits in a Michigan State prison sentenced to a maximum of forty years for a crime he did not do.

The whole case stinks of McCarthyism all the way. Michael tried to help his nephew Matthew and for that he paid the price. Hate shows its ugly face in many forms--and I venture to say that this is its prominent style for Gay men in America.

Silence only allows others to be harmed --we must tell Michael's story.

Banish Five Fears

1. Fat. Of the five, fat is easiest to completely eliminate. Eat right and start exercising. Changing the way you look not only makes you more attractive, it makes you feel better about yourself.

2. Bald. Bald isn't bad anymore. Get what's left shaved or buzzed down to nothing. Just don't try to hide it. I've seen plenty of guys who are bald or have receding hairlines and look really hot.

3. Ugly. Unless you're the Elephant Man, you're probably not ugly. Get in shape, find a good hair stylist, wear the right clothes, stand up straight, have a positive outlook, smile, and be nice to people. That'll overcome any amount of ugly.

4. Short. There are lots of short guys and guys who are attracted to short guys, so I don't think being short is much of a disadvantage. But if you're short, it's even more important to stay thin to avoid the rolly-polly look, and don't wear horizontal stripes, and if you want to cheap a little, wear some lifts. (No, not stilettos.)

5. Old. Be proud of all the experience and knowledge you've accumulated, and be glad you don't have to deal with the immaturity of youth, but don't give in to the stereotypes that society has placed on old people. Stay active, get lots of exercise, find young "old" people to hang out with, avoid the sun, use moisturizer, and eat low-fat. If people take care of themselves, there's no reason they can't be active until the day they die.
