A Mean Little Puppet for Big Oil & Big Religion

It's typical whining from the simian Bush to beg that everybody make nice, when his campaign's major theme is calling Gore a liar, when the party he represents spent $52 million making nasty on Clinton--when they squandered their majority on impeachment inquiries. It's galling to hear that dullard plead to "change the tone" in Washington, when in private he is calling his enemies Asshole. That's his true character, like the video at the wedding--he is a mean little puppet for big oil and big religion.

Finally, Gore ripped into Bush, but not harshly enough for my taste. Bush's homespun drooling and snorting looked worse than in the other two debates, but Gore was holding back again - not making the personal assaults that will win him the election.

You see, people go about claiming that voting is low because politics is nasty and quarrelsome—bullshit. The highest ratings on television are wrestling and Jerry Springer. The people don't vote because they are stupid. Have you watched the focus groups?

They make me ashamed to be American - my god what a stupid bunch. No wonder Cheney can say targeted tax cuts would take a CPA--Bush can hardly say the phrase— for Bush, anything beyond a cliche is a tongue twister, but the focus groups can barely comprehend the difference between a dollar of tax money and a lottery ticket.

Gore scored on a number of points, particularly when he finally got Bush to agree that his tax cut goes to the top 1% - and called it unfair - which it patently is. I mean, I have made over six figures for about six years, and that's a lot of money as far as I'm concerned, but I am not even close to the 300k barrier! As far as I'm concerned, most of the folks I know whose income exceeds a quarter million are parasitical executives. They are the rich class equivalent of the old welfare queens. I say take their unearned income - it is a product of the society and not of their work.

Gore failed to deliver on the meaning of good government. While he clearly stated the facts about the reduction of the size of government, and its modernization under the reinvention of government project for which he was responsible, he failed to make a clear simpleton's argument like--every time you stop at a stoplight and don't get hit, that' government. Every time you drink water and don't puke, that's government. We want good government, not the abdication of our responsibility to lay down our money to the rich. He failed to lay out the clear truth that states with so-called limited government, like the abominable Texas, is 49th and 50th in virtually every category of measurement except the egos of its oil executives.

I hope that Gore consolidated his Democrat base. The polls show that only about 77% of self proclaimed Democrats were committed to voting for Gore. That's a crying shame. The fact is, Gore will be elected by blacks, hispanics, single women and gay men. Every gay vote counts, every african american vote counts, every labor vote counts, and every working man and woman's vote counts. Because the Republicans are counting on their silence.

Well I refuse to go back to the Golden Age of Republican politics and their heroes--Joe Macarthy, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan. I refuse to go back into the closet. I refuse to go back to footing the bill for a bloated defense bureaucracy, I refuse to go back to piling up giant debt that the rich own and collect interest on. Who do you think the government pays 1/3 of its budget to? to the bond holders on the national debt. The rich love the national debt--it is an economic engine for their parasitical investments.

Get out and vote for Gore. It is the best way to insure both your freedom, and your piece of the pie.

West Wing Lampoons Dr. Laura

Cast of The West Wing I do not normally watch the West Wing, but I had it on in the background in the past 10 minutes and caught a scene that took my breath away.

The scene featured a character that was obviously patterned after Dr. Laura. I am not sure of the context, nor the background set-up, but suddenly, in a White House gathering the President confronts this woman.

First, he establishes that she is not the type of doctor she alleges she is and lets her know he feels it is misleading. Then, after he confronts her about her stance on homosexuality her assertion is that it is not her opinion but rather comes from the Bible.

At this, the President proceeds to quiz her on other Old Testament pronouncements. Now, I could be wrong, but it sure sounded like the scriptwriter lifted entire chunks from that recent open letter circulating around the Internet. It was the letter that asked Laura for advice on how to properly punish people for violating God's laws, such as violating the Sabbath.

In this case, I'll accept the plagiarism, because the result was a bullseye, aimed directly between the eyes of every gay-basher who has ever cloaked themselves in the armor of religion to excuse their hatred. The President concluded by telling her how rude it was for her to be sitting while he was standing. Humbled, she stands up.

As I said, I have not been one to watch the West Wing. Tonight's episode just earned a viewer.

Tom Swann's Arrest Last Week

My name is Rod Mendoza. One year ago my wife and I stood beside Tom Swann when he was baptized at his church. Tom wept, as did many people in the congregation. I spoke at his birthday party along side Fred Bilodeau, Dave Schaub and Ron Oden. tsweenyfrank.jpg - 7.64 K Tom Swann (right)
with Rep. Barney Frank

Last Thursday the Riverside County Sheriff's Department left a message for me that Tom had been taken to the hospital. I am a captain with the Sheriff's Department. I have been on vacation in another State taking care of my ill Father. Based on the information I have received Tom and I both feel the Sheriff acted properly. A nurse gave the deputy false information but on patrol they do not have time to make a judgment. Tom was NOT arrested and was taken voluntarily according to the Sheriff's Department. However, the Desert Hospital changed his status to "forced hold" when they found out he was gay.

At his birthday party I said Tom often overdoes things. However, to his credit he is blind and has lived with AIDS for ten years and he still fights for what he believes in. Tom tries to persuade everyone to vote for the Democrats and to support civil rights. Many people disagree with him.

When I return to California I will visit with Tom. You might recall Tom was out there campaigning for the Democrats when Dukakis and Mondale were way behind in the polls. Tom did not give up on the Democratic Party. I hope you won't give up on Tom.

Rod Mendoza
