Batman is a Roman Catholic

Chuck Dixon, who writes Batman cartoon strips for DC Comics, said the brooding superhero's massive guilt complex meant he had to be a Catholic…

"I recently conceded to Graham (Nolan) that he must be a Catholic. No Protestant ever suffered guilt the way Bruce does."

They based their theory on Batman's enormous guilt, and equated that to the so-called Catholic guilt complex, arising out of a feeling of repentance for sin and helplessness in solving the world's problems.

Delta Airlines' No-Kiss Zone

A gay couple that got more than friendly while flying the friendly skies say they were treated unfairly by a Delta flight crew during a confrontation that began with a kiss, and ended with one man being detained by foreign law enforcement authorities and denied boarding on his return flight.

Jerry Falwell's Treatment
of his HIV+ Gay Cousin

fallwellhead.gif - 9.20 K I'm extremely disappointed about the way Jerry has reacted. I think he's been shameful. My hope was to talk to him about my health situation and ask for his understanding, compassion and forgiveness. Here was his chance to show compassion and to amend the un-Christian positions he has taken. He has all but said, This is God's curse. You reap what you sow.' And that is complete nonsense. I wanted to show him I wasn't just another faceless person out there with HIV. We have a blood connection.

Brett Beasley— Rev. Jerry Falwell's HIV+ gay cousin--quoted by Richard Johnson with Paula Froelich and Chris Wilson in “Page Six”—“Gay Cousin's Plea to Falwell”--New York Post, April 26

Some Things Are Not Possible

Americans United for Separation of Church and State commended a federal appeals court ruling that strikes down Ohio's state motto, "With God, all things are possible," for violating church-state separation.

In a 2-1 decision in ACLU v. Capitol Square, the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled today that the religious motto, which directly quotes the Bible's Book of Matthew (19:26), amounts to state endorsement of Christianity.

The Dangers of Skipping

dansavage2.jpg - 4.35 K There are still places where it's not safe to skip down the street holding your boyfriend's hand. But there also are places where it's not safe to be black or a woman and walk down the street.

Dan Savage—quoted in the Seattle Times (Seattle, Washington), April 24, 2000 “Gay-rights march 2000: Where's the unity this time?”

The Clout of the Wealthy

The fact is that HRC represents the sensibility of wealthy gays and lesbians, who, until recently, were far too closeted to have much impact. But as the movement has grown to include more affluent people, its central political agenda has changed to reflect their clout. Activists who struggled through the lean years have felt deeply disenchanted for some time by what their creation has become. HRC is a worthy target, but even if there were no rich and haughty enemy within, progressives would direct their disgust at the community's growing embrace of attitudes gay radicals call "assimilationist."

Leonardo DiCaprio's Best Questions Censored

leo.jpg - 26.52 K The White House, possibly hoping to drive ABC nuts, has released a transcript of the 20-minutes of actor-president conversation that got cut, and it turns out that that there was one person involved in the project who had a more, ah, global vision of global warming. Mr. DiCaprio wanted to know how the United States could get developing countries to cut poolution when “We're responsible for a quarter of the greenhouse gases that go into the atmosphere.” He also asked about requiring automobile manufacturers to make cars cleaner.

Japan: Where Gay Sex is Safe Sex

Japan, interestingly enough, has bishonen manga, its own professionally produced homoerotic novels read by young girls, and yaoi, a popular slash based on the form. “It's considered 'safe' for teenage girls to read gay male stories in graphic novel form because there aren't any women displayed in a sexual way,” Antrim says, “so it's not so threatening to them.”

Family Research Council Dumps on Vermont

This is `gay marriage' in everything but name, and it is a direct assault on society's most essential institution. It means that Vermont's lawmakers no longer believe that marriage -- and marriage-based families -- have any unique value to society.
