He's No Pansy, He's Just a Jerk

I think you have to be decent. But being decent doesn't mean you're a pansy.

Rick Lazio—Republican New York Senatorial candidate to CBS Evening News reporter Diana Olick, noted by Richard Goldstein in the Village Voice, May 30

Name Recognition

Rick Lazio. One day you're a busboy at the Olive Garden, the next day you're running for Senate against Hillary Clinton…Rick Lazio. Isn't he that Cuban kid's uncle?

David Letterman—quoted in The New York Times, May 31

An Impractical Joke

The cigars that I am holding in my hand come from Wieczorek-Zeul and from Cuba… And thus I am holding one of Fidel's cigars in my hand that I would like to give to you.

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder—while offering President Clinton cigars during a late-night June 1 dinner

Sri Lanka Unleashes Rapists on Lesbians

Sri Lanka's Press Council has come out in support of a letter in a newspaper, urging that convicted rapists should be unleashed on lesbians. The Council said the letter, in the Island newspaper, was published in the interest of the community. It also imposed a fine of $28 on the man who brought the complaint, Sherman de Rose. Mr. de Rose is a gay rights campaigner who complained that the letter, published last August, promoted violence and hatred of lesbians. In its ruling the Council said that lesbianism was an "act of sadism", and was an offence under the country's penal code.

Body Politics

The history of the representation of homosexual desire onstage is a series of moves from nothing, to innuendo and gesture, to discussion without any physical signs of attraction or affection, to, finally, showing. Self Excommunication

I dumped the Catholic stuff for good in 1984. Being both gay and Catholic is like being a black KKK member. Actually, maybe it's worse, since half of the bishops and priests are self-loathing homo hypocrites. Just thinking about that nasty mess called Catholicism turns me into a crazy man who could launch into a 1,000-word rant-o rama right here and now

Knights of the Theatre Say Goodbye to Gielgud

Some of the country's finest actors gathered yesterday to bid farewell to their friend and maestro of their art, Sir John Gielgud. Knights of the theatre, Sir Alec Guinness, Sir Donald Sinden and Sir John Mills, joined Dame Maggie Smith and Lord Attenborough to pay their respects to the legendary actor at an intimate service held in a tiny church near his Buckinghamshire home.

Real Republicans Don't Wear Make-Up

The five paragraph missive (“Gore Coverup Revealed”) beamed into electronic mailboxes of reporters last week, was another swipe at Vice President Al Gore by the Republican National Committee. But it was not a suggestion of political corruption or obstruction of justice that had prompted the official Republican bulletin. It was a report that Mr. Gore worse makeup.

cardwhin.jpg - 11.03 K Look Who's Talking Intolerance!

What this campaign has brought home to me is that the people who brand others as intolerant are much more intolerant than anybody.
