Jerry Falwell's Macho Worries

Speaking of political correctness, a new hymnal supplement being utilized in some United Methodist churches is attempting to feminize the Old Time Religion in quite an alarming manner. One hymn in "The Faith We Sing" hymnal refers to our heavenly Father as "Mother God." Another refers to the Holy Spirit as "She [who] Comes Sailing on the Wind." Other hymns sing praises to "Mother Earth," "Mothering Christ" and "Holy Partner."

We've been Kicked Out of Better Places

As an Anglican priest in the diocese of Sydney who has ministered to gay, lesbian, bisexual transgender and intersex people over the past ten years, I fear that the present General Synod of the Anglican Church is about to deliver another painful rejection statement to these people.

What's Wrong with George W?

Cockiness in cahoots with greed and abject ignorance is especially scary in a leader of the world's foremost techno-power…I see a smug, short-sighted and unconvincing leader-impersonator. He's far too stupid to be anything other than a stand-in for his dizzy dad's rich boyfriends, freaks who foul our good air, allowing themselves astronomical bonuses while they encourage both electric bills and pump prices to rise. In GAY, back in 1969, The Gay Witch, Dr. Leo Louis Martello, revealed to our readers what he called "the curse that never fails." That particular curse, which I have bellowed at Bush, is just starting to work these days. It needed only a short time to do so. What's the curse? It goes like this: "I wish you upon yourself!"

School Days under the Bible Belt

The second semester of his freshman year, Justen was walking back into the gym after lifting weights. He says a classmate came up to him and said, "I hear you like me" and punched him in the face. Justen later found out that someone had told his attacker that he was "looking up his shorts" during gym class. Justen said he wasn't… The boy who hit Justen was suspended, but the harassment picked up after the incident, he says. Instead of calling him names behind his back, older boys would get in his face and call him "queer" or worse. They would lunge at him in the hallway to make him flinch. One boy threatened to kill him if he "looked" at him.
