A Hand for the Beach Boy!

yanko.jpg - 13.51 K Yanko shined in all phases. His fantasy consisted of a mythical bird flying around and protecting a huge egg (centered in the center of the stage), as the bird was scared off by bolts of lightning, Yanko (without the audience seeing) went around the back of the egg and climbed inside. The crowd was on their feet as he then emerged from inside the egg as a samurai warrior.

Oriental vs. Western Thinking

Easterners, the researchers find, appear to think more "holistically," paying greater attention to context and relationship, relying more on experience-based knowledge than abstract logic and showing more tolerance for contradiction. Westerners are more "analytic" in their thinking, tending to detach objects from their context, to avoid contradictions and to rely more heavily on formal logic.

At the Heart of the Political Battleground

The Nature-Nurture debate has always been at the heart of the political battleground with some on the Right believing people are born good or bad, intelligent or slow-witted. The Left believes things depend more on social circumstances.

Hating Hillary and Her Homo Friends

pbuchanan2.jpg - 4.67 K Rampant homosexuality, a sign of cultural decadence and moral decline from Rome to Weimar, is celebrated, as our first lady parades up Fifth Avenue to share her 'pride' in a lifestyle ruinous to body and soul alike.

Football-Fans and Violence

An older theory—that watching violent sports serves as a catharsis that makes people less likely to be violent—has largely been discredited…One intriguing study found that doctors see significantly greater numbers of battered women in Washington emergency rooms on the day after the Redskins win than on other days.

Men Who Ask So Little of Women

On the cover of one of those women's magazines it said, "One hundred ways to please your man." Hell, we men don't need a hundred ways. Just four: suck our dicks; play with our balls a little; fix something to eat and stop talking so much.

Advice for Mary Cheney

Here's what I think. First you need to have a talk with Mom and tell her not to say that you're not out because you are. Then you need to have a talk with Dad and his buddy George W. and ask them what they plan to say when the media asks them about gay issues. In particular, are they going to stick to their anti-gay positions when reporters point out to them that in his personal life, your dad has not treated you like a second-class person at all? ..If they say they will stop saying anti-gay things and will start supporting policies of fairness toward gay and lesbian Americans, then hooray for us all. If they say they're going to try to avoid talking about the topic forever, you should gently point out to them that we reporters are not so easily deterred.

Dick Cheney and the Republican Platform

dcheney.jpg - 11.76 K How can Cheney run on a party platform that denies his own personal experience with at least two thoroughly honorable homosexuals--his trusted aide (Pete Williams a spokesperson for the Pentagon) and his loving daughter?…The platform approved by the same convention that nominated Mary Cheney's father would bar her from military service, deny her civil rights protection from discrimination and prevent any legal recognition of the five-year relationship she has had with her partner.

Church & State Issues in Kentucky

As a person raised in the traditions of the Southern Baptist Church and who accepted Christ in the Virgie Baptist Mission, I fully understand the sincere and deeply felt beliefs of the church…My actions will always be consistent with (my father's) understanding of basic Southern Baptist beliefs.

Governor Paul Patton of Kentucky—quoted in The Letter www.theletter.net --August

Sadistic Officials in the Good Ol' USA

Amnesty International welcomed a series of recommendations to the United States handed down on May 15 by the U.N. Committee Against Torture. We urged the U.S. Government to implement the recommendations without delay, thereby living up to its obligations as a party to the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment…We will be watching closely when the United States submits its second periodic report to the Committee Against Torture in November 2001.
