Enslaving Humanity

I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish Church, by the Roman Church, by the Greek Church, by the Turkish Church (Islam), by the Protestant Church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church…All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me to be no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.

Thomas Paine-Age of Reason--1794

Falwell & Robertson = Terrorists, Says Cronkite

Walter Cronkite has unleashed an unusually harsh attack on religious broadcasters Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. The retired anchorman calls Falwell's remarks about the Sept. 11 terror attacks as "the most abominable thing I've ever heard," in the upcoming TV Guide.

Ex-Gay Ministry touts God's Vengeance

Over the course of the ten Exodus meetings that Smith attended, he says he heard remarks from the ex-gay minister like "Oh, AIDS is God's punishment for the gay man" and about harassment: "That's what gays should expect or deserve."…"They are friendly as long as you agree with the them," Smith recounts, "but the minute you question and say you want to be gay, you see a lot more evil in their face and hear that you're going to hell and maybe you should have been in the World Trade Center." Hearing that, according to Smith, "started ringing some bells."

Commander-in-Chief Must Appear Legit

A media review of uncounted Florida ballots in the 2000 presidential election has been delayed indefinitely as a result of the recent terrorist attacks…A group of news organizations, including the Orlando Sentinel, had planned to publish stories in late September based on a review of uncounted ballots in the race between George W. Bush and Al Gore.

Straight & Gay?

Males do not represent two discrete populations, heterosexual and homosexual. The world is not to be divided into sheep and goats. Not all things are black nor all things white. It is a fundamental of taxonomy that nature rarely deals with discrete categories. Only the human mind invents categories and tries to force facts into separated pigeon holes. The living world is a continuum in each and every one of its aspects. The sooner we learn this about human sexual behavior, the sooner we shall reach a sound understanding of the realities of sex.

Drs. Alfred C. Kinsey, Wardell B. Pomeroy and Clyde E. Martin-Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (The Kinsey Report), 1948

We Consume, Therefore We Are?

The capitalist market makes possible, but also constrains, social movements whose central objective is the expansion of individual political rights. Over the course of the twentieth century, as a function of the rise of consumer culture, political rights have been increasingly recast as economic liberties. This means that social movements focused on winning rights are increasingly drawn into market-based tactics and objectives. In this way, the market promotes assimilation into a homogeneous national culture…

Over the Carnage

Over the carnage rose prophetic a voice, Be not disheartn'd, affection shall solve the problems of freedom yet.

Walt Whitman-Leaves of Grass, 1855

NeoCons Call for a Wider War

Calls for a wider war dominate the neoconservative media. The Weekly Standard's opinion editor, David Tell, wants war not only on past sponsors of terror, but also on 'any group or government inclined to support or sustain others like them in the future.'…(William) Bennett wants Congress to declare war on 'militant Islam' and 'overwhelming force' used on state sponsors of terror such as Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Iraq, Iran and even China. The Wall Street Journal wants strikes 'aimed at terrorist camps in Syria, Sudan, Libya and Algeria, and perhaps even in parts of Egypt.'

Who Knows Where or When?

We can go back to watching all the late night comedy we want, hopping on planes and rooting for Barry Bonds. But still the reality remains that other shoe will drop and that we have no idea whose, or when or where.
