Its All about Me!

Actually, I -- this may sound a little West Texan to you, but I like it. When I'm talking about -- when I'm talking about myself, and when he's talking about myself, all of us are talking about me.

San Francisco's Dept. of Public Health Blasts B.A.R.:

SF ACT UP and their supporters have used the Bay Area Reporter articles to support their position that HIV does not cause AIDS, that the HIV epidemic is over, and that AIDS funding to San Francisco should be decreased. … I refuse to allow my staff to be used to further the SF ACT UP movement of denial, misrepresentation, and harassment. Therefore, effective immediately the Department of Public Health will respond to the B.A.R. questions only in writing …

Dr. Mitchell Katz-- in an October 10 letter to the Bay Area Reporter.

San Francisco's B.A.R. Replies to the DPH:

It comes as no surprise that the (SF) department (of Public Health) is tired of our critical stories directed toward its continuous inaccuracies regarding HIV infection rates and a "surge" of male rectal gonorrhea incidence among men who have sex with men. We're tired of writing them. Yet because other news outlets are happy to report inflated figures while simultaneously blaming irresponsible gay sex practices, we have asked that for the sake of these gay men, the true and accurate rates be released instead. But DPH's anger toward our persistent coverage has translated into a meritless crusade to render themselves blameless for their false statements and their unwillingness to correct these statements on a larger scale.

America in its Heart

hatecrimes2.jpg - 8.32 K Hate-crime laws, an open military where all can serve their country, Boy Scouts without a sexual litmus test, the right to a livelihood judged only on skill and performance; all have a common thread. They are issues defining what America finds acceptable in its heart. All men are created equal, but how equal?

Henry Scholz-- Guest Editorial, Roanoke Times, October 13

Inadequate Support for a Hate Crimes Law

I would support the Orrin Hatch version of it, not the Senator Kennedy version. [Ed. Note: The Kennedy version includes sexual orientation, the Mormon Senator Hatch's version does not.]
