To a Murderer, from Matthew's Father

shepparents.jpg - 7.72 K Dennis and Judy Shepard being interviewed by Dateline This is not the 1920's, 30's and 40's of Nazi Germany. My son died because of your ignorance and intolerance. I can't bring him back. But I can do my best to see that this never, ever happens to another person or another family again.

As I mentioned earlier, my son has become a symbol, a symbol against hate and people like you, a symbol for encouraging respect for individuality, for appreciating that someone is different, for tolerance. I miss my son but am proud to be able to say that he is my son…

You robbed me of something very precious and I will never forgive you for that. Mr. McKinney I give you life in the memory of one who no longer lives. May you have a long life and may you thank Matthew every day for it.

Stirred by Fears that
He is Himself Homosexual

The "gay panic" defense has no statutory basis, but it has been invoked in other cases. Typically, the argument is that the attacker, stirred by fears that he is himself homosexual, becomes so offended by what he perceives as a sexual advance that he is provoked to kill the victim. In other words, the attacker should not be held fully responsible for acts triggered by his own homophobia. Excusing violence motivated by prejudice would not be tolerated in racist attacks against ethnic minorities, and should not be allowed to stand in cases involving attacks against gays.

J. Edgar Hoover's 'Fag
Finders' Fingered Who?

jchancellor.jpg - 3.92 K Longtime NBC News anchor and commentator John Chancellor was the target of a 1960s FBI probe into whether he was homosexual-- until President Lyndon Johnson ordered the bureau to confirm him in a virtual exercise of executive privilege.

That's according to government documents declassified last spring and just released. Chancellor died in 1996.

Bigger is Gayer?

Six inches is the average length of a male erection, right? More or less? More (6.32 inches) if you're gay, apparently. And less (5.99) if you're straight. Stiff homosexual organs are one-third of an inch longer, claims an article titled "The Relation Between Sexual Orientation and Penile Size" in the June Archives of Sexual Behavior.

The phallus findings are based on archived data from 5,122 measurements of men's schlongs obtained by the Kinsey Report from 1938-1963. But isn't it penile chubbiness that matters more in sexual pleasure? Heteros lose this contest, too. The straight circumference is 4.80 inches, while gays wield a stout 4.95.

Kissing Porn Gets Popular

allymcbeal.jpg - 5.77 K Nothing like a little girl-on-girl action to lure viewers to a TV series. Take Monday's "Ally McBeal," for instance, which nailed its largest audience ever – 17 million viewers – with an episode featuring prolonged kissing and a bonus standing lap dance sequence between Size O Girl and her office nemesis, Ling.

That's the entire population of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming combined.

Africans Enlisting in the War on AIDS

The first of the "Men, Sex and AIDS" workshops was held in Durban, South Africa, this week. Other workshops are planned for Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe in the new year. As with the Durban workshop which was heavily oversubscribed, an overwhelming number of people from other countries have applied to be included in these workshops.

It was good to see that the workshop was able to address the dangers of working from a stance that is a stereotypical description of "men" and their desires, motivations and interests. There are enormous differences between individual men, within and between societies. For while some men display little interest in protecting themselves and their partners against disease, perhaps believing themselves to be "invincible", there also are many who behave with the utmost responsibility and consideration for others.

Steve Forbes? Running
for President Again?

sforbes1.jpg - 6.73 K It is clear that this is not the same geeky, hopelessly awkward plutocrat who tried to buy the nomination four years ago. This is a geeky, hopelessly awkward plutocrat who has seen the light…He favors posting the Ten Commandments in public schools, teaching abstinence, and affirming the sanctity of marriage. Though he used to avoid the issue of abortion, he is now an outspoken pro-lifer…

Is There a Middle Way?

arthur1.jpg - 15.04 K Arthur Evans How do we know the voice that speaks to us is really God's? The question is the stumbling block of all 'revealed' religion. How can we interact with the universe without presupposing much more than merely rational interpretation? This question is the stumbling block of all 'rationalism'. Is it possible to leave room in one's life for the more-than-rational while at the same time avoiding the grossly irrational behavior characteristic of most organized religion? To this last question we will return in later chapters.
