gayinternet.jpg - 33.81 K By 2005, according to projections by Computer Economics in Carlsbad, California, the gay and lesbian population using the Internet will have jumped from a current 9.2 million users to 17.1 million.

North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific rim will host the greatest numbers of gay and lesbian web surfers.

According to Michael Erbschloe, Computer Economics vice president of research, the North American communities will remain largest during the next half-decade.

Other continents will find that their gay populations more than double and in some areas will more than triple, he says.

Erbschloe believes that "Web-based marketers need to get a clue.". He says: "This is a significant market segment that cannot be ignored and certainly not alienated."

South America is slated for the fastest rate of growth rate, which Computer Economics projects will be 227 percent. Asia Pacific follows at 197 percent, and Africa at 151 percent.
