Survey Finds the British are More Pro-Gay

A new survey found that 42 percent of British men and 60 percent of British women think there's nothing wrong with having gay sex.

The figures come from a national poll on sexual attitudes and lifestyles published February 26 in the journal ^Sexually Transmitted Infection.~

Ten years ago, only 25 percent of men and 33 percent of women approved of gay sex.

The percentage of people acknowledging having had gay sex jumped to 6.7 percent for women and 8.5 percent for men -- up from 3.5 percent and 5 percent respectively 10 years ago.
European Court OK's Adoption Discrimination

The European Court of Human Rights ruled February 26 that France did not discriminate against a gay teacher who was not allowed to adopt a child.

French officials had deemed Philippe Frette's "lifestyle" "inappropriate."

Frette's lawyers argued that court rulings within France had violated his rights to non-discrimination and respect for his personal and family life as guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights.

But the Euro court said scientific opinion is split on whether it harms children to be raised by gay parents, that the Council of Europe's 41 member nations are not of one mind on the issue, that gay adoption law is in a state of flux, and that "a broad margin of appreciation had to be left to the authorities of each state, who [are] in principle better placed than an international court to evaluate local needs and conditions."

Frette, 47, has three months to appeal the 4-3 ruling to the Euro court's full 17-member chamber.
