Gay Roman Catholics to Ashcroft:
'Appoint Special Prosecutor!'

Compiled by GayToday

Attorney General John Ashcroft Washington, D.C.--The U.S. Rainbow Sash Movement has asked Attorney General John Ashcroft's Justice Department to appoint a Special Prosecutor to find out if any federal laws have been broken in the covering up and moving of predator priests by certain Roman Catholic Cardinals and Bishops, from one Diocese to another.

The scandal of priestly pedophilia which has enveloped the Roman Catholic Church for the past five months is bringing anguish to the hearts of the faithful.

"If Fate Herself had chosen a way to roast the innards of the Roman Catholic Church, She couldn't have found a more effective and insidious method than the Church fathers have implemented," said Jack Nichols, author of The Gay Agenda: Talking Back to the Fundamentalists, and GayToday's editor, "Its as if suicidal explosions of hydrogen awareness-bombs have been ignited by the religious authorities themselves."

According to Joe Murray the U.S. Convener of the Rainbow Sash Movement:

"My heart is broken as each day I read of not only of the incompetence of some our Cardinals and Bishops, but their complicity in enabling serial sexual abuse by the clergy.

"We as a Church need to get beyond this. Sadly, we have lost all confidence in our Hierarchies to deal with this problem. It has become very apparent that this is beyond the ability and experience of our Cardinals and Bishops.

"The Rainbow Sash Movement," says Mr. Murray, "believes this is a time for Prayer and public witness. We are asking all Catholics to use Pentecost, May 19th, the Church's birthday as time to call for reform within the body of Christ."

"Unequivocally, justice must be provided to the victims, of abuse. Only when this is done can healing and forgiveness begin, and there should be no ambiguity about this."
