And the destination for the 10th annual Mr Gay World competition is…

Knysna in South Africa will host the 10th annual Mr Gay World competition in May next year.

It’ll be the second time Knysna has hosted the event and third overall for South Africa.

It will also coincide with Knysna’s Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival – Africa’s biggest LGBTI cultural festival.

Eric Butter, president of Mr Gay World said: ‘The 10th Mr Gay World marks a milestone.

‘We have worked with the team in South Africa twice and it has always been a great pleasure. They have the very best work ethic and they always deliver a world class event,’ he said.

Butter said they chose Knysna after fires ravished the area in June this year.

He said: ‘We also decided on South Africa because we wanted the international community to support the rebuilding of Knysna after the devastating fires in June.’

Knysna fires

The South African coastal town of Knysna made headlines this year with a devastating fire. But the headlines also came when a local paramedic claimed same-sex marriages were to blame.

Bossie Boshoff (not his real first name) took to Facebook to insinuate God’s wrath was behind the natural disaster.

The fire killed six people and forced over 10,000 evacuations.

Boshoff believes the Dutch Reformed Church allowing 12 same-sex marriages at the annual Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival angered God.

He wrote: ‘Can you remember last year when Knysna was made up in pink and 12 homosexual marriages took place on one day?’ reports News 24.

He continued: ‘It was only after the election of the Dutch Reformed Church when they approved gay homosexual marriage.

‘It was all over the newspapers. They mustn’t cry now about the fire. It dared god. God doesn’t let himself be mocked,’ he said.
