Janelle Monáe comes out as pansexual: ‘I consider myself to be a free-ass motherf*cker’

Janelle Monáe just came out as pansexual.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the Tightrope singer said she’s previously been in a relationship with both men and women.

She said: ‘Being a queer black woman in America… someone who has been in relationships with both men and women – I consider myself to be a free-ass motherfucker.’

Monáe said she originally identified as bisexual, ‘but then later I read about pansexuality and was like, “Oh, these are things that I identify with too.” I’m open to learning more about who I am.’

Janelle Monáe: ‘Pynk like the tongue that goes down’

Janelle Monáe released a song called Pynk at the start of this month.

In it, she wears what looks like vagina-shaped pants and sings about what many initially called a strong bisexual anthem.

She also released a song featuring Tessa Thompson called Make Me Feel.

In Make Me Feel, Monáe sings about being interested in both a male and female love interest.

While at a color-saturated club, Monáe finds herself attracted to both Thompson and a man during the night.

She sings: ‘It’s like I’m powerful with a little bit of tender. An emotional, sexual bender.’

Janelle Monáe is getting ready to release her third studio album, Dirty Computer at midnight tonight (27 April).

But along with the album, Dirty Computer will also feature a 50-minute film (or, in the words of Monáe, an ’emotion picture’).

The official synopsis describes it as ‘the story of a young woman named Jane 57821 (Monáe). Jane is living in a totalitarian near-future society where citizens are referred to as “computers”.’

Janelle Monae also recently schooled anti-gay pastor Kim Burrell and condemned Kanye West for his pro-Trump comments.
