Pat Robertson told a mom that her son looks at gay porn because he’s being molested

Pat Robertson answered a question from a gay 13-year-old’s mom by saying that the kid is being “seduced” by someone on the internet.

On The 700 Club this week, a mother who went by Emma wrote to Robertson asking for advice.

She wrote that she found “homosexual pornographic material” in her son’s history when she was conducting her “weekly technology checkup” on his iPad.

“How can we stop my son’s homosexual interests?” Emma asked.

Robertson’s response was, of course, the worst possible, but it was also fairly incoherent.

“Kids are curious about all kinds of stuff,” Robertson started. “I mean, you know, eight, nine, ten-year-old boys, they’re interested in all kinds of things. So they are exploring stuff.”

So the kid is just “curious.” Not the best response, but it can buy the kid a few more years with homophobic parents he’s completely dependent on.

Then Robertson suggested that there’s “somebody” (an adult gay man, presumably) out there “trying to seduce your son.” He had no evidence, or even any logical connection to the topic other than the old and homophobic myth that all gay men are pedophiles and that otherwise straight teens turn gay when they’re molested.

“They shouldn’t be sending homosexual or any other kind of sexual material on the internet,” he said, even though there’s no reason to believe that anyone sent porn to the teen. He most likely just found it himself.

Robertson said, “You really need to find some technological way of cutting the cord on that one,” and moved on to another question, as if telling people on national television that a teen is being molested, based on no evidence at all, is just a banal part of a day’s work.
