Everything is closing due to the coronavirus pandemic – except this organization

The Ali Forney Center, the New York-based LGBTQ community center, released a statement in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

New York State has more cases than anywhere else in the country with 524 as of today – including its first mortality. New York City, where the Center operates its several shelters for LGBTQ youth, has the second-most in the state with 154.

As LGBTQ people are more likely to contract the virus, and more at risk to succumb to it, closing their operations would make sense.

However, President and Executive Director Alexander Roque issued the following statement, letting supporters know that they cannot close.
