Chasten Buttigieg shuts down the GOP’s brazen attempt to celebrate Pride Month

Chasten Buttigieg had harsh words for the Republican Party as they claimed to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month in the midst of orchestrating nationwide attack on LGBTQ rights.

“@GOP is proud to have doubled our LGBTQ support over the last 4 years, and we will continue to grow our big tent by supporting measures that promote fairness and balance protections for LGBTQ Americans and those with deeply held religious beliefs,” tweeted Ronna McDaniel, the Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), yesterday.

That didn’t sit well with many LGBTQ people on Twitter, as Republican lawmakers have filed dozens of bills to roll back transgender rights in dozens of states this year while Senate Republicans refuse to pass a ban on anti-LGBTQ discrimination and Christian conservatives try to get federal judges to rule against LGBTQ rights by expanding religious exemptions.

“Those with ‘deeply held religious beliefs’ are often the parents who force their LGBTQ children out of the home and onto the street,” Buttigieg wrote. “I’ve met with those kids. 40% of homeless youth in this country are LGBTQ. Re-visit your party’s platform before you open your mouth about.”

The last Republican Party platform that was passed by the party was in 2016, and it stressed the party’s opposition to LGBTQ rights. In 2020, the party didn’t pass a platform.
