The 2018 Texas GOP platform has 24 anti-LGBTQ planks. Out of 81.

OutSmart, an LGBTQ publication in Houston, searched through the recently-accepted Texas GOP platform and found 24 different parts that are anti-LGBTQ.

Last month, delegates at the GOP state convention in San Antonio approved the state party’s platform, which is supposed to lay out the state party’s goals on all issues.

The 81-plank platform contains 24 planks that in some way mention LGBTQ people or issues. The LGBTQ parts are always opposed to equality.

The planks touch on a number of issues. One explicitly supports keeping conversion therapy legal, saying “access to sexual orientation counseling for self-motivated youth and adults” shall not be limited.

Another plank brings religion in:

We affirm God’s biblical design for marriage and sexual behavior between one biological man and one biological woman, which has proven to be the foundation for all great nations in Western Civilization. We oppose homosexual marriage, regardless of state of origin.

The platform also advocates the state ignoring federal law that protects LGBTQ people in several planks. One says:

We support withholding jurisdiction from the federal courts in cases involving family law, especially any changes in the definition of marriage.

Transgender rights also get a few mentions. The platform opposes “Taxpayer Funding for Sex Change” and transgender people in the military.

The plank called “Child Rights” only discusses restricting bathrooms to a “person’s biological sex.” Children apparently have no other rights worth mentioning.

Dallas News reports that, without the efforts of the Log Cabin Republicans, there would have been 25 anti-LGBTQ planks. Gay Republicans were able to nix another plank that said: “Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental truths that have been ordained by God in the Bible.”

Despite that small victory, the Texas GOP’s platform still mentions its opposition to equality in around 30% of its planks.
