RuPaul teases details about hotly-anticipated Netflix series

Yet another season of RuPaul’s Drag Race may be wrapping up, but RuPaul Andre Charles isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

In addition to his talk show, which launches in select markets on June 10 for a three-week trial run, Ru just revealed new details about his upcoming comedy series, AJ and the Queen, which premieres on Netflix early next year.

AJ and the Queen is a show on Netflix, that comes out in January, that was created by Michael Patrick King and myself,” Ru revealed to Entertainment Tonight at DragCon L.A. last weekend.

He continued, “It is the most challenging thing I’ve ever done because it’s acting like a real human. Usually in acting roles I play the gay best friend or the neighbor. This is a fully rounded human being with all of the emotions.”

Ru plays Ruby Red, “a bigger-than-life but down-on-her-luck drag queen who travels across America from club to club in a rundown 1990s R/V with her unlikely sidekick AJ, a recently orphaned, tough-talking, scrappy 11-year-old stowaway,” in the 10-episode hour-long comedy series.

“We shot that for five months,” Ru explained. “We were in the writers room for two months. I had to memorize pages and pages of dialogue. It was a challenge, but I’m so proud of it.”
