Lily Tomlin pays moving thanks to wife Jane Wagner in SAG Awards speech

While accepting the Screen Actors Guild’s Life Achievement Award on Sunday (29 January), Lily Tomlin paid tribute to the woman with whom she has shared her life.

‘Thank those people on whose shoulders you stand – my partner Jane Wagner is the one whose shoulders I stand the tallest,’ the comedy legend said onstage in Los Angeles.

Wagner, 81, has been married to Tomlin since 2013 but the couple has been together personally and professionally for 46 years.

They have collaborated often over the decades with writer, director and producer Wagner winning three Emmys with Tomlin for various projects.

Tomlin, 77, was honored for her extensive career in television and film.

She gained fame on the classic series Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In and currently stars with Jane Fonda in the comedy Grace & Frankie.

Her film credits include an Oscar winning performance in Nashville as well as acclaimed roles in Short Cuts, Grandma, All of Me and 9 to 5.

The award was presented by Tomlin’s 9 to 5 co-star Dolly Parton. The third star of that classic film, Fonda, was scheduled to co-present but was too ill to attend.

Parton paid tribute not only to Tomlin’s acting work but also to her activism for LGBTI equality and other issues.
