Human Rights Campaign president to ‘ally’ Ivanka Trump: ‘Tweets aren’t enough’

Human Rights Campaign (HRC) President Chad Griffin does not see First Daughter Ivanka Trump as an LGBTI ally despite her claims to be.

Trump has been widely criticized and ridiculed for sending out a tweet in support of LGBT Pride Month – something her father, US President Donald Trunp, has not done.

Ivanka wrote: ‘I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy.’

Griffin, who heads the largest LGBTI rights organization in the US, was asked on POLITICO’s Off Message podcast what he would say to Ivanka if they were face-to-face.

‘I would say we need your voice and we need it to be loud,; he said.

‘An ally is not someone who tells people that they’re an ally. An ally is not someone who sends a tweet to show that they’re an ally. An ally is someone who stands up and fights for a cause.’

Donald Trump said during his presidential campaign that he would be an ally to the LGBT community.

But since his election, most of his appointments have been people with anti-LGBT views.
