Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson announces pregnancy

Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson just announced she’s expecting a baby with her partner Jen Wilson.

And on Lesbian Day of Visibility, no less!

In a Twitter post, she wrote: ‘Jen and I are delighted to announce that I am expecting out first child in the late Autumn.’

She then continued: ‘Like all new parents-to-be, we are excited – and daunted – about the months to come. Mostly, we are just over-joyed at the prospect of starting a family together.’

Davidson explains her deputy leader will ‘hold the fort’ for a few months while she’s on maternity leave. But it’s ‘business as usual’ in the meantime.

She said: ‘Politicians have personal lives too, and I hope people will understand that I want to be able to combine my public role with a family life.’

The Conservative leader thanked the love and support from friends and family during the early stages of the pregnancy by IVF.

‘Jen and I are incredibly lucky in the support we have received from our family and friends over the past few months,’ she then said. ‘I’d like to thank them all again today.

‘We have always dreamed of starting a family. We are so pleased to be able to share our happy news,’ she said.

Davidson has a long history of supporting LGBTI rights. She called on the early pioneers of the Suffragette movement to be pardoned earlier this year. The Diversity in Media awards also nominated for the Hero of the Year award last year.
